"Salt Wind" flying kite by Portland Island...

Posted by Captain Mike on Saturday, August 7, 2010, In : Bermudan Sloop
"Salt Wind" was flying what looks like a symmetrical spinnaker using a "Tacker" (which allows use without a pole)  And a "sock" which takes the drama away from the hoist and retrieval...   She certainly added some welcome colour to the usual sea of white sails...

Bavaria 40 in Swanson Channel on Victoria Day.

Posted by Captain Mike on Thursday, May 27, 2010, In : Bermudan Sloop
This Bavaria 40 (best guess) was spotted in Swanson Channel on Victoria day.  Nice day, though quite cool when the sun was hidden.  Minimal breeze and we all soon threw in the towel and woke up the noisy diesel demon down below.
Looks like quite a new, still shiny boat, though PNW winters will soon try to turn it green!  Bavaria, perhaps epitomizes German engineering when it comes to boats.  The company has perfected the art of building economical, mass-produced boats, but without the usual la...

09May2010:  Enjoying the fresh breeze and opposing tide, clawing past Enterprise Reef (and a deceptively strong tide) near Active Pass, heading towards Navy Channel between Mayne and Pender Islands...  I'm guessing she is about 29 or 30 foot. A C&C?

Oasis, a sloop from Salt Spring Island was out again... A stiff breeze made for a great sail that day (even though both wind and the tide were making progress slow).

Spring shake-down (first time out this year) to test some new upgrades and systems.  Not exactly shake-down sailing conditions, but a nice relaxing afternoon, nonetheless.

C&C in lead at SaltSpring on Sunday...

Posted by Mike Aston on Monday, October 19, 2009, In : Bermudan Sloop
This modern C&C shows clearly how hi-tech sails and a well set up modern boat can make a big difference to sailing performance.   Of about 7 boats participating in local race we sailed through yesterday, this C&C had a commanding lead over its competitors...

9 High Res images available.  Contact me.

This perhaps represents the more expensive end of local club racing.  However, at the other end of the scale, these guys at the back were doing it for less but having just as much fun...

Double-ender sloop drifts towards Ganges

Posted by Mike Aston on Monday, October 19, 2009, In : Bermudan Sloop
Last Sunday afternoon the double ender was caught mid afternoon sailing around in the approaches to Ganges, Salt Spring Island, BC.  Not enough wind, so the sails soon came back down... It was not a bad day at all, considering the rain we've had recently.
Looks like a Pacific Seacraft - around 30ft+, maybe a 32?

Sunday Sail in Captain's Passage...

Posted by Mike Aston on Monday, October 19, 2009, In : Bermudan Sloop
This C&C slipped past heading for Swanson Channel.  Fenders left out doesn't bother me, although I'd at least bring ours onto deck, but some yacht club Commodores might have a different view on this subject...

Looks like a C & C 32 ar thereabouts.  It was a nice day for a slow sail, but a bit more breeze would have helped.

Bayfield sloop in Swanson Channel

Posted by Mike Aston on Monday, September 21, 2009, In : Bermudan Sloop

My guess is this is a Bayfield 25, perhaps a 29.  Enjoying a leisurely, late-season sunny day and light breeze in Swanson Channel.  Very smart with its blue hull.

About Me

Mike Aston Even a bad day's sailing is more fun than a good day at the office. Maybe my photos tell the same story. Hopefully via my blog you will get a chance to look for some sailing photos of your own boat. I've categorized the yachts by type and added tags regarding the size and other attributes, where known, which should be useful and make searching easier. You could also search for locations to find photos taken in a particular location. After all, not many people get the chance to photograph themselves sailing their own boat, so perhaps I've done that for you already? Please contact me. I'd be pleased to hear from you.
